Gaza truce proposed after Israeli shell kills 30
GAZA CITY, Gaza (AP) - France and Egypt announced an initiative to stop the fighting in Gaza late Tuesday, hours after Israeli mortar shells exploded near a U.N. school sheltering hundreds of people displaced by the onslaught on Hamas militants. At least 30 Palestinians died, staining streets with blood. The Egyptian and French presidents didn't release details of their proposal, saying only that it involved an immediate cease-fire to permit humanitarian aid into Gaza and talks to settle the differences between Israel and the Islamic militants of Hamas who rule the small coastal territory.
Democratic leaders seek to resolve Burris saga

Despite Recession, WTIC Holiday Store Salvation Army Collection Exceeds Goal
An outpouring of support came from WTIC listeners for the 2008 Holiday Store Collection. Captain Terry Woods tells WTIC 1080 News that, given the economic times, the Salvation Army set this year's goal at the same as last year, $174,000. But he says the generosity of listeners brought in more than $14,000 more than the goal, for a final total of more than $188,000.
New Britain Museum, TheaterWorks Collaborate on Hartford Arts Center
Downtown Hartford is getting a new arts space. TheaterWorks and the New Britain Museum of American Arts have announced that  the TheaterWorks building at 233 Pearl Street will become "City Arts on Pearl," with permanent art installations in the lobby, a lounge, new signs outside and inside, and changing art exhibits from the museum's collection with each play being presented.
Crib Recall Due to Lead Paint Hazard; at Least One Child Sickened
A crib and matching furniture sold at specialty stores for the last two and a half years are being recalled because of high lead levels. The Department of Consumer Protection says the "Newport 4-in-1" cribs were manufactured in Indonesia for Munire Furniture and sold at specialty stores. The recalled cribs and furniture are made of wood with a rubbed black finish.
Ice Storm Pictures from Northwestern Connecticut
The ice storm which hit Connecticut early Friday left thousands in the Northwest corner of the state without electricity,  but it also left residents with some awe-inspiring views.  Gerri Griswold shares pictures of  the scenery. 
New Downtown Tower Planned for Site of Former WTIC Home
A new, larger building is planned for the site of the downtown Hartford Building known as "Broadcast House," former home of WFSB Television and one-time home of WTIC Radio.   Developer Abul Islam says the new building will be about 260,000 square feet and four levels of parking.

The Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of Wooden Toys, manufactured in India and imported by Earth Friendly LLC, of Beaverton, Oregon.
'Rage' Guitars for Wii Video Game Recalled
 The Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to a recall of wireless electric guitars designed to work with the Nintendo Wii system. The voluntary recall was announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.. The guitars, distributed by Performance Designed Products of Sherman Oaks, California, are known a Rage Wireless Guitars.
Halloween Figurines Recalled Because of High Lead Content
 Connecticut's Consumer Protection Department is warning of an unfriendly Casper the ghost figurine which may have been purchased by Connecticut families. Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell says importer Coyne's & Company agreed to a voluntary recall of the "Casper the Friendly Ghost Halloween Mini-Figurines" because of high lead levels.
